Photoshoot #1 - Interior Design

One of the genres I'm very interested in is Interior Design. My plan was to shoot the interiors of a well decorated, contemporary home and make the pictures look professional.

People like places that are clean and look organized so it is not overwhelming. When we get home we need a sense of calm and peace, and a clean and organized, contemporary and beautifully decorated space gives you that, and that's why I want my pictures to evoke.

For my photoshoot I tried to create a planning checklist first to help me organize the ideas of what I wanted. I chose the theme, looked for inspiration in other home magazines, and chose one of my family friend’s home as a location. Particularly this house is very modern and contemporary and combines different elements and materials with some splashes of color in the overall design. I knew that house well and I knew it is always well maintained, clean and organized so I didn’t have to move a lot of the furniture and decoration pieces around.

Initially we were assigned to take 10-15 pictures and share it with our class. Then we needed to choose our top 5-8 pictures after class feedback. Because I have taken photography classes in the past, this assignment was relatively easy for me, especially in terms of photo composition. One of the complications I had was finding the right lighting for the shots as I didn’t have an external light source at hand, and also wanted to keep the color temperature in mind so the pictures look natural, but I was able to edit some of the pictures in Lightroom.

Overall this first photoshoot really made me realize the different components needed to really get the perfect picture for the blog post.
