shot list

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

For my photoshoot, I will create a shot list. This is an outline of every shot that will be taken in a scenario of a particular kind of media, in this instance, my magazine photoshoot. This will help me stay more organized, have a better idea of what I will be doing, and most importantly, help me ensure my collection of photos has the variety needed to feature in my travel magazine.

Since I will need to go to different locations, the shot list will also help me manage my time more effectively by staying focused, instead of being carried away.

Here is my shot list

Shot size: MFS=Medium Full Shot, LS=Long Shot, MCU=Medium Close-up, CU=Close-Up, MS=Medium Shot, LS=Long Shot, MCS=Medium Close Up. Shot type: Eye Level, HA= High Angle, LA=Low Angle

An important thing to always remember about a shot list is that it is not set in stone. Sometimes you will have to adjust and change your shot list on location. It might be that the original view you had planned is now blocked, or there is no access. Or it could be that the sky is cloudy and is not going to make your shot look great to feature the beach, for example. These, among others, are things that will mean steering away from your shot list. So the key is adaptability; while you plan and try to keep your shot list as detailed as possible, you also need to be willing to tweak and change things if necessary.

PS: For this assignment I sourced my images by browsing on the Internet for inspiration. I searched the places I wanted to feature in my magazine with key words related to what I wanted to show. I used the free version of an app called StudioBinder to create the shot list. It was intuitive and easy to use, and gave me all the tools to arrange and organize my ideas. But the free version allows only 1 project with no more than 10 shots, so it was somehow restrictive, even though I was able to fit the shots I had envisioned for my magazine, so in the end, it worked out well.
