There are several design and editing platforms that could be used to create a magazine cover. Today's blog post will cover my experience with different editing softwares.
Canva
I like Canva because I am familiar with it and while it is simple and intuitive to use, there are many tools and templates to chose from to adapt and give life to my own magazine cover. These specific covers stood out to me because of the colors and the layout; they have a simple modern look to them. I believe the photography and masthead stand out in those covers which are very important elements to draw attention.
One issue with Canva is that it may seem as if I am not trying anything new, but I think I can learn more about how to use Canva and all its tools while being familiar with the site.
Adobe Express
This program is one I've heard of but never used before. Adobe Express makes it easy to design and create a magazine cover precisely the way you want it to look. The magazine covers are very nice and look very professional. I feel like I could be flexible with this program and do a lot on it, but it may be trickier since I haven't used it yet. It feels it is intuitive, with easy-to-use functions that allows you to spend less time figuring out how to use the program and more time creating the magazine cover you want.
Visme
This program was recommended to me by a friend because as shown in the images above, the magazine covers look modern and different which is what I want for my own. While researching, this site seemed easy to use, and it had several different templates to chose from, but I feel like these covers are not exactly what I want and have in mind. While they are nice, they look more like a flyer rather than a magazine cover.
Another program we had the chance to try in class was Photoshop, but truthfully, I did not enjoy using it and I do not think I will use it in the future for this project. I see Photoshop as a program to edit pictures in a more professional way, rather than creating and designing my magazine. It wasn't too difficult, but hard to manage and too complex.
I believe I will end up using Canva simply because I am familiar with it and have used it previously, but I will still be learning all of the tools I haven't used yet. Creating a magazine may be a different process I can learn from as I have only used Canva for projects in the past for social media posts. Canva allows me to create anything I want, from logos to presentations to flyers, you name it, so I can be as simple or complex as I want and need.
Adobe Express is a program that intrigues me, so it may be something I may give a chance and challenge myself. We will see as this project moves forward.
