Magazine Cover Sketch

Updated: Jan 29, 2023

The next step in the magazine making process is creating an idea of what I would want my magazine cover to look like. I decided I wanted a simple yet vibrant and exciting look that related to my genre of travel. I used magenta, blue and teal as the main colors, black for the text, and accents of coral for a special touch. I incorporated that idea into my sketch, and colored it, filling it with what I envision my cover magazine will look like.

My masthead will be called Caminos; I think it's a great name that fits in the travel genre as it means roads or path in Spanish. I like that it is a name in Spanish that represents who I am and my background so it can connect with people like, and I liked the ring it has to it. It is interesting and different. I wrote it largely as my masthead in magenta, then added my slogan "The Path to Adventure" in a smaller font in black.

The background image is a sketch of an inflatable flamingo floating in the ocean. As this is a Miami Edition, there is clearly a representation of Miami through the background image, therefore I chose something simple yet impactful and colorful that also goes along with my main cover line.

I tried to add most magazine aspects while keeping it as simple and aesthetically pleasing as possible, since that is a main objective for my magazine: to showcase Miami and engage the readers through beautiful photography. That includes the main image of course, the masthead (using the serif font Museo), and then added a slogan, a main cover line, other cover lines, a puff, a barcode, the magazine price, and a dateline, trying to make it as realistic as possible.
